Description

Albert Leo Schlageter, German officer shot ten years ago as a spy by the French during the Ruhr occupation, was glorified as the first martyr and hero of Nazi Germany by May 28th in a great ceremony at Düsseldorf, attended by 500,000 persons from all parts of the nation, including 260,000 Nazi storm troops, Stahlhelm men and members of other Nationalist organizations. A huge cross has been erected to Schlageter’s memory on the spot where he was executed. Above is a general scene during the ceremonies showing the massed thousands of uniformed storm troopers.
