Description

According to reports from Germany, a body of 100 Polish soldiers, contrary to the treaties and conventions, landed on the Westerplatte, where an ammunition depot is kept on Polish Danzig territory, on March 6th. The High Commissioner of the League of Nations and the Senate of the Free State of Danzig have protested against this breach of the existing treaties, which has caused great uneasiness among the inhabitants of Danzig. As a measure of protection against possible further violations on the part of the Poles, the Senate has mobilized the civic guard of the city. This photo shows civic guards patrolling the streets of Danzig after the arrival of the Polish troops. Credit line (ACME)  3/17/33 Stamp: Ref. Dept. Mar 23 1933 N. E. A. Handwritten: A 762
